Blodeuwedd is the Goddess of Spring. She is a Welsh/Celtic Goddess. She was made from different flowers
to be the wife of Llew Llaw Gyffes. Llew was Arianrhod’s son who she cursed to never have a human wife. To get around the curse Gwydion created Blodeuwedd for Llew out of the flowers of Bean, Broom, Burdock, Meadowsweet, Nettle and Primrose. After some time when her husband was away, Blodeuwedd fell in love with Gronw. Together they plotted to kill her husband Llew. Once he was killed and Gyffes heard of it he worked to get Llew back into his human form. For punishment Blodeuwedd was turned into an owl. Many don’t like Blodeuwedd because she plotted to kill her husband, but I look at it like this. I wouldn’t like to be created just to be someone’s wife, to have my life planned out for me. I don’t think she liked it either and so took steps to make her life her own. She teaches us many things like to use our life lessons to grow and transform from them. She also teaches us to take responsibility for your actions and how to be assertive when it’s needed. She was to me a strong woman who just wanted control of her own life. She is very closely associated with flowers and owls. Each of the flowers she was made from are also associated with her. She can be seen in all three of the goddess phases but most often she is seen as the maiden. She is the in the Maiden phase when she is first created. Then when she takes her lover Gronw she enters the Mother phase. Then she enters the crone phase when she helps Gronw to kill her husband. She is very connected to spring since she is a spring Goddess and was made from flowers. She is often honored during Beltane and Midsummer sabbats. She is connected with both of the elements of Earth and Air. She is connected to the Earth element because she is made from flowers which all came from the Earth. Then she is connected with the Air element when she is transformed in an Owl which is a strong Air element. Over all I don’t connect with this Goddess as much as I do Arianrhod and Epona. That might be because of my connection to Arianrhod and Blodeuwedd was the wife of her son and broke her curse on him. My connection with her might grow stronger in time, and only time will tell if it will. But over all I see her as a very strong Goddess who wanted her freedom from her husband.
